Vine Street Baptist Church New Pastor

SHarmonVine Street Baptist Church is happy to Call to the Pulpit and Senior Pastor role, Mr. Spencer Harmon.  The church body voted to extend the Call on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Spencer contacted the chairperson of the Search Committee on Tuesday evening to accept.

In all, the five member Search Committee read and reviewed 32 resumes, asked 16 candidates to fill out an in-depth follow-up survey, analyzed those remittances, and had 11 interviews with five different candidates. The process was deep and through, and bathed in prayer and supplication by the entire church.

Spencer is from Middleton OH and grew up in attending a large church there. He was home schooled until his love of baseball transitioned him to a public high school. He did very well with school and baseball, until a shoulder injury ended his dreams of playing professionally, which all indications had him on a clear track to accomplish. It was during his recovery time that Spencer began to feel the call into Pastoral ministry.

On a chance visit with his best friend from back home, Spencer found himself drawn to Boyce Bible College at Southern Seminary as a way to begin his training and education for his new found calling. Spencer graduated from Boyce in 2013 with a Bachelors in Theology. While attending school, he met and eventually married Taylor, who is originally from St. Louis and is also a Boyce graduate. For a period of time, Spencer was on staff at Boyce Bible College as the Assistant Director of Student Life there. He is currently enrolled at Southern Seminary and is working on an M-Div CM.

After having lived on nearby Charles St for several years, Spencer and Taylor recently purchased a home near Churchill Downs to accommodate their expanding family, which already has one-year old daughter and a second baby on the way, due in several months.  They have been members of our neighbor and sister-church, Immanuel Baptist, where Spencer serves as a Deacon and leader in that community. He comes with some of the highest recommendations the Committee received.

The congregation of Vine Street Baptist Church is excited to see what the Lord has planned for the ministry at the corner of Vine & Highland, the streets and neighborhoods of Germantown and Paristown, and the greater community in Louisville, in Kentucky and the world.
